Break-In Guide
Breaking In Your Trips B Glove
Patience wins here — a proper break-in molds the glove to YOUR hand and keeps its structure for years. Rush it and you lose both.
The Trips B method
- Condition lightly. Apply a small amount of glove conditioner to soften the leather — focus on the pocket and hinge points.
- Work the leather. Bend and flex the glove open and closed to loosen the hinge. Pound the pocket with a mallet or ball.
- Shape overnight. Wrap the glove with a ball deep in the pocket, secured with a band, and leave it overnight.
- Play catch. Nothing beats it — daily catch molds the glove to your hand better than any shortcut.
Leather-specific notes
- American Kip (B13): fastest break-in — game-ready quickly with regular catch.
- Japanese Steerhide (B20): firmer — expect a controlled, gradual break-in.
- Japanese Kip (B27): pro-spec density — takes the longest, but once it's in, it becomes an extension of your hand and holds shape season after season.
Don't
- Microwave it, oven it, or steam it yourself (voids warranty and wrecks the leather's life span).
- Soak it in water or slather it in oil.
